The DEF CON 29 Call for Everything is now Closed!
Check our Con Calendar for village calls that may still be open!
The time has come! There's no denying it, it's 2021 and DEF CON will be here before we know it, so let's get this party started. All of the insanely awesome DEF CON events don't materialize out of thin air, so that's where YOU come in. We want to hear how you or your content will contribute a new perspective to DEF CON.
DEF CON is planning to perform a risk assessment to help us decide, ideally by sometime in April, if we should hold a physical "last known good configuration" conference in Las Vegas for 2021. We would adhere to all health and safety guidelines, so the better we can understand them the more informed our assessment will be. Until then we need you to help us plan!
In all of our calls for participation we have NEW questions for the COVID-19 era that will be used in deciding how much interest people have in remaining on-line only, hybrid, or in person only. Please review them carefully, they are intended to answer what level of participation you are comfortable with considering the unique circumstances. (Feel free to elaborate as needed, you can change your mind up until we make a final decision about in person.)
Thanks from all of us,
The Dark Tangent & DEF CON Staff
The Calls for EVERYTHING are now posted!
Contests, Events, Villages, Parties, Talks, Workshops, Vendors, Press, Music... and more! Every year hundreds of dedicated hackers put their heads together and ask themselves one question "How are we going to do it bigger, and better, than last year?", and every year they do. Join them! Give us your craziest ideas, your fresh outlook, your passion. We'll select the top submissions and give you the space to help make it happen.
To tweak the minds of hackers from around the world, we work hard to fill the halls & servers of DEF CON with events to feed your curiosity and hone your skills in every way imaginable. Whether you want to sling code and hurl exploits alongside the world's best hackers in Capture the Flag, accept the challenges of exclusively cultivated hacker contests, or find yourself combing all of Las Vegas for that final elusive item in the DEF CON Scavenger Hunt, we've got you covered. From talks to workshops to demo labs DEF CON is always on the lookout for quality material.
Submit to host a contest or event.
Competition not your thing? That's fine, come sharpen your skills, or learn entirely new ones, in one of the DEF CON Villages. Lockpicking, Hardware Hacking, Social Engineering, Crypto, and the list goes on. Stay for an hour, or never leave, the choice is yours, and we're all about choice. Do you have an idea for a DEF CON village? Do you want to create a space for people to get together and work on a shared interest?

Maybe you don't want to invest an entire weekend, and single serving insanity is more your speed. Every night at DEF CON we have multiple rooms throwing parties with people who share the same passions. Belt out your favorite tunes at Hacker Karaoke, play classic arcade games and foosball with Crypto legends, engage in air to air drone battles, or just bounce from room to room to keep the party going till sunrise. We need people who are going to host the events we all enjoy so much. We have a ton of nighttime space for hacker style revelry! If you excel at partying, and want to throw one, give us your plan and we'll get you some space!

It’s that time of year again—the DEF CON Call for Workshops is open! We’re looking for folks to send in their submissions for hands-on workshops that are four (4) hours long. In previous years, we’ve had classes for every skill level from beginner to advanced. Are you into teaching a few dozen people how-to : analyze malware, lockdown techniques, hardware hack, build a badge, disassemble, or crash testing and triage? Does spending a few hours in your professor hat sound like something you’d be good at? Great, consider applying now, the deadline is May 1st!

What about Demonstrating the tool you spent all year working on? You think you can spend a few hours demonstrating it’s use and why hackers should add it to their arsenal? The DEF CON Demo Lab is a dedicated area for hackers to show off what they have been working on, to answer questions, and even coax attendees into giving feedback on their projects. Presenters will be given a dedicated time and location to present a tool or project of their creation; show what it does, how it works, and why we should add it to our own hacker armory. If you’re interested in presenting, apply soon, call ends May 12th.

We have all this cool stuff happening at DEF CON day and night, there's mics dropped, shenanigans, and hacks being thrown around left and right, someone has to document it. That's where the Press comes in. If you're looking to get your journalist and reporting groove on we got some special badges for that...
Apply for a press badge (Opening April 1st)
